How to analyze your MONETA Money Bank statement and find the leaks

How to analyze your MONETA Money Bank statement and find the leaks · VESTELON FLOW

MONETA has been through more names than most banks — it was GE Money Bank before 2016 — and its customers tend to be long-term. That is exactly the profile where costs accumulate invisibly. An account you opened a decade ago under a different brand, on conditions you no longer remember, with standing orders you set up for a life you no longer live.

None of that is hidden. It is all in your statement of operations, in a format built for machines to read. The only question is whether anyone has read a full year of it in one sitting.

How to export your MONETA statement

In Internet Banka, open Finance, go to Historie and choose Výpis operací (statement of operations). Select the account, the payment types you want and the period, then download. MONETA offers ABO, CSV, PDF and HTML from that screen.

One thing worth knowing before you reach for your phone: the export in ABO format is available only in Internet Banka, in the account details under account statements. The Smart Banka mobile app gives you PDF only. So do this once on a computer and take CSV — one transaction per row, with the date, amount and description in separate columns, which is what a tool needs in order to group charges and spot repeats.

Take the full twelve months on the first pass rather than a single month. A recurring charge only looks like a recurring charge when you can see it repeat.

Then upload the file to VESTELON FLOW. You never share your Internet Banka login, your password, your Smart Banka authorisation or any access to the bank. FLOW reads the file you exported yourself, nothing else. It is the difference between handing over the keys and showing a printout.

Inside the file, expect dates in DD.MM.YYYY, amounts in Czech koruna with a comma as the decimal separator, and domestic transfers described through the Czech clearing system. Card payments carry the merchant name as the payment processor registered it, which is one reason recurring charges hide so well in a long list.

Where money quietly leaks at MONETA

Like every full-service Czech bank, MONETA prices accounts conditionally: the monthly fee on a current account and on a card is typically waived when a condition is met, such as an incoming salary above a threshold or a minimum number of card payments. Conditions can be met deliberately once you know which one applies to you. What to look for on your own statement:

  • A fee that appears in some months and not others. That is the signature of a waiver you meet most of the time and miss occasionally. The months themselves usually explain why.
  • Conditions from an account you opened years ago. Long-term customers often sit on a package that was competitive when they signed and is not any more. The statement tells you what you are actually paying.
  • Cash withdrawals outside the bank's network. Small each time, a subscription when repeated weekly.
  • Standing orders that outlived their purpose. Insurance on something sold, a membership near an old address, a provider replaced but never cancelled.
  • Card subscriptions on the account you check least. The most common single finding, and the fastest to fix.

No amounts in that list, on purpose. Fee tables change and depend on which package you hold and when you opened it. The reliable number is on your own statement.

What FLOW finds in a MONETA statement

Upload the CSV and FLOW does the reading. Every row is categorised, then FLOW looks for what a human eye skips in several hundred lines:

  • Every recurring charge, ranked by annual cost rather than monthly.
  • Bank fees separated from your actual spending, so the cost of holding the account becomes a visible number.
  • Forgotten subscriptions, including those billed under a processor's name rather than the brand you know.
  • Your fixed costs against your income, which determines your real room each month.
  • How many months your current reserve would cover if the income stopped.

One report, ranked, with the first three actions worth taking. No bank connection, nothing to install, no open-banking consent.

Turning the report into recovered money

  1. Cancel what you no longer use. Top of the ranked list first; forgotten subscriptions are the fastest win.
  2. Check whether your account package still fits. If you have been a customer for years, compare what you pay against what the bank currently offers new customers.
  3. Meet the waiver conditions on purpose. Find the threshold that removes a recurring fee and decide whether meeting it is worth it.
  4. Redirect what you recovered. Straight to savings or your reserve, before it leaks elsewhere.

FLOW is in early access, so you are ahead of the crowd, and your first report is free. Upload one statement and get one clear answer: what your MONETA account actually costs you.
