How to analyze your KBC statement and find the hidden fees

How to analyze your KBC statement and find the hidden fees · VESTELON FLOW

To analyze your KBC statement, download it as a PDF from KBC Mobile or KBC Touch, then look for four things: recurring domiciliëring payments, forgotten subscriptions, account and card fees, and any foreign-currency costs. You can do this by hand in about an hour, or upload the same file to VESTELON FLOW and get a structured read of your leaks and true monthly costs in minutes, with no KBC login required. Here is how to do both.

What is actually on a KBC statement

A KBC account statement (rekeninguittreksel in Dutch, extrait de compte in French) lists every debit and credit for the period you choose: salary or benefit payments, domiciliëring direct debits, standing orders (doorlopende opdracht), Bancontact and Payconiq payments, card purchases, cash withdrawals, and the account's own fees. Belgian transfers often carry a structured communication (gestructureerde mededeling), a twelve-digit reference in the format +++xxx/xxxx/xxxxx+++ that lets an invoice match automatically to a payment. Most lines read as routine. The ones worth reading twice are the handful that repeat every month without you ever deciding on them again.

How to download your KBC statement

You do not need to connect anything to your bank or hand over a password. You only need the file KBC already lets you export.

  1. Open KBC Mobile on your phone, or log in to KBC Touch on your computer.
  2. In KBC Mobile, tap Mijn KBC at the bottom of the screen, then scroll down to Documenten. In KBC Touch, look for the same Documenten section.
  3. Choose the account and the period you want, the last three to six months is a good range.
  4. Open or download the statement as a PDF.
  5. Upload that single file to FLOW. That is the only thing you share, no KBC login, no read access to your account.

One downloaded file is enough. FLOW reads the statement, not your bank. The statement you already own is all it needs to find what the everyday flow of transactions makes easy to miss.

Once you have the PDF saved, take a moment to look at how the entries are laid out. Dates typically follow the DD/MM/YYYY format, amounts are shown in euro with a comma as the decimal separator, so 24,90 EUR rather than 24.90 EUR, and next to ordinary transfers you will see domiciliëring entries for direct debits and Bancontact or Payconiq payments doing more of the everyday spending. That structure is no accident. KBC Group was formed on 3 June 1998 from the merger of Kredietbank, the cooperative CERA Bank and the insurer ABB, building one of Belgium's first integrated bank-insurance groups. The same group also owns ČSOB, the bank in Czechia and Slovakia, a stake it has held since ČSOB's 1999 privatisation. When you upload your statement to VESTELON FLOW, these Belgian formats are recognised automatically, so FLOW sorts each transaction into a category for you, and you can adjust anything.

Where money quietly leaks on a KBC account

A full-service account bundles a lot of useful things, and a few quiet costs travel alongside them. With KBC, a handful of specific patterns tend to drain accounts without anyone really noticing:

  • Package or bundle fees. A monthly package fee for a current account, card and extras can be worth it if you use what comes with it, but if the perks sit unused, it is a recurring charge doing nothing for you.
  • Card fees. An annual fee for a debit or credit card renews quietly every year, whether or not the card still gets much use.
  • Old domiciliëring you forgot to cancel. A gym, an insurance add-on or a service you stopped using years ago can keep collecting through direct debit long after you stopped caring.
  • Foreign-currency and card costs abroad. Payments and withdrawals outside the euro zone usually carry a conversion markup on top of the exchange rate. A holiday or a few overseas online orders can quietly stack these up.

Here is an illustrative picture of how those small lines add up. These are example amounts in EUR to show the shape of the problem, not real figures from any account.

Quiet leakExample monthly costExample yearly cost
Package extras you do not use€7€84
Card annual fee for a card you barely use€4€48
Old domiciliëring never cancelled€16€192
Foreign-currency card costs€6€72
Total€33€396

None of those lines feels big on its own. Together, they are a weekend away you did not take.

What FLOW finds, with no bank login

Upload the file and VESTELON FLOW does the line-by-line reading you never have time for. From a single KBC statement it surfaces:

  1. Every recurring charge and domiciliëring, including the ones buried between Bancontact payments and everyday card purchases.
  2. The yearly cost of fees, so a small monthly number becomes the real annual figure you are actually paying.
  3. Your top leaks, ranked, from the biggest drain down, so you know exactly where to look first.
  4. What to review first, a clear shortlist instead of a vague feeling that you are wasting money somewhere.

There is no KBC login, no account linking and no ongoing access to your finances. You upload one file, you get one read, and you stay in control of it. FLOW is live and in its founding phase, so you are getting in before the crowd.

FAQ

Where do I download a KBC statement? In KBC Mobile, tap Mijn KBC, then Documenten, choose the account and period, and download the statement as a PDF. In KBC Touch, the Documenten section works the same way.

What KBC charges are easiest to miss? Old domiciliëring you forgot to cancel, a package fee you no longer use fully, and card costs abroad. They look tiny per line but add up over a year, which is exactly what FLOW totals for you.

Do I have to connect my KBC account? No. FLOW reads a single statement you upload. There is no KBC login, no account linking and no ongoing access, and your first report is free.

Does FLOW work with both KBC Mobile and KBC Touch exports? Yes. Upload the PDF statement from either KBC Mobile or KBC Touch, and FLOW reads it the same way.
