What Happens When You Upload Your First Statement to FLOW

Handing anything about your money to a new app deserves skepticism. So instead of asking for trust, this article walks through exactly what happens when you upload your first bank statement to FLOW, step by step, including the steps where nothing happens at all. Those turn out to be the most important ones.
What you need before you start
You need exactly one thing: an exported bank statement, as a PDF or CSV file. Every banking app can produce one, usually in under a minute. If your bank hides the button, our guide on exporting a bank statement as CSV covers the common ones.
Here is what you do not need:
- No account. The first analysis runs before any sign-up.
- No bank login. You never enter banking credentials and never connect an open-banking feed.
- No card. The first report is free, and no payment details are asked for.
There is no screen anywhere in FLOW that asks for your bank password. Not on day one, not later. That is by design.
This is only an estimate. Upload your statement to find your real number.
Step 1: open the page and drop the file in
Go to app.vestelonflow.com. The first thing you see is an upload box. Drag your statement onto it, pick it with the file chooser, or simply paste transaction rows as text. That is the entire input.
If your name or account number on the statement bothers you, black it out before uploading. FLOW only needs the transaction lines, dates, merchants and amounts, to find patterns.
Step 2: the analysis runs in your browser
Now the part most people do not expect. When the analysis starts, your file is read locally, by the page already running on your device. At this stage nothing is transmitted to a server. Not the file, not the transactions, not a summary of them.
This is not a promise buried in a privacy policy, it is how the pipeline is built: the pre-signup analysis code is delivered to your browser and executes there, the way a calculator app does math on your phone. A statement cannot leak from a server it never reached.
What the analysis actually does in that minute: it groups transactions by merchant, looks for repetition, same payee, regular cadence, similar amount, separates the genuinely recurring from the one-off, and ranks what it finds by yearly cost.
Step 3: about a minute later, the result screen
When it finishes, you see four things:
- Your monthly money picture. How much came in and how much went out in the period you uploaded.
- Your single biggest leak. The recurring charge costing you the most per year, named, not hinted at.
- A preliminary FLOW Score. One number from 0 to 100 summarizing the health of your cashflow.
- A preview of deeper insights. The full breakdown unlocks with a free account, and the preview shows what is waiting there.
A model example, with invented numbers, only to show the shape of the screen: a statement with 58 transactions might show €2,140 going out, a top leak of a duplicate music subscription at €11.99 a month, which is €143.88 a year, and a preliminary score of 68. Your screen will show your numbers, not these.
Step 4: you decide what happens next
This is the actual decision point, and it is yours.
If you close the tab, that is the end. The analysis disappears with the page. FLOW's servers never saw your statement, so there is nothing to delete, because nothing was stored anywhere but your own device.
If you create a free account, your results are saved, so you can track the next month against this one. That is the moment data is stored, with your consent, and after you have already seen what the tool found.
One honest exception: some statements are scanned images the browser cannot read as text. FLOW offers AI-assisted reading for those, and that does mean sending the file for processing, so it is only available after you create an account and explicitly agree. It never happens silently.
Why no bank login is the whole point
Most objections to money apps are really one objection: "I do not want to hand over access to my bank." That instinct is well founded. In a 2021 PYMNTS and MX survey of 2,368 US consumers, 24% said they were not comfortable sharing bank credentials with third-party apps, and a survey by The Clearing House found that roughly two thirds of app users were uncomfortable with the level of data access once they learned how much those apps could see.
FLOW sidesteps the question instead of arguing with it. There are no credentials to hand over. You choose one file, covering one period, and that file is the entire relationship.
What FLOW cannot see
- Your bank password. It is never asked for, so it cannot be stored or lost.
- Accounts you did not export. One file means one account, one period.
- Anything after the statement ends. There is no live connection, so there is no ongoing feed.
- Your name or account number, if you redacted them. The analysis works without them.
If you want the deeper security detail, we wrote a separate, honest answer to whether it is safe to upload a bank statement.
Common questions
Does the first report cost anything? No. The first analysis is free, with no card and no account required to run it. Paid plans exist for ongoing tracking, but the first look costs nothing.
My statement is a scanned paper document. Will it work? If the PDF contains readable text, yes. If it is a pure image, the browser cannot read it locally; you can either export a CSV from your banking app instead, or use the AI-assisted reading, which is behind an account and an explicit consent step.
What if my bank's format is unusual? The parser is tested against a wide set of real-world statement formats. If it cannot read your file, you will see that clearly, it does not guess silently, and pasting the transaction rows as plain text is a reliable fallback.
The whole first run takes about a minute, start to finish. Upload one statement at VESTELON FLOW and you will know your number before you have decided anything at all.
Upload one bank statement. FLOW shows exactly where your money leaks today, what it is worth once you redirect it, and the year it could set you free. Not another tracker: a plan you can act on.
