How to Cancel a Patreon Membership Before It Renews

To cancel a Patreon membership, open Patreon, go to Settings › Memberships (or visit the creator page and choose Edit), then turn off auto-renew or cancel that membership. Each membership is cancelled separately, so repeat it for every creator. If you joined through an iPhone or iPad, cancel it in your Apple subscriptions instead. You usually keep access until the end of the period you already paid for.
How Patreon works (and why it adds up)
Patreon lets you support creators with a recurring payment in exchange for posts, perks and community access. Most memberships are billed monthly on a tier you choose. The catch is that each one is a separate membership to a separate creator. Back one podcast, one artist and one writer over a year and you are quietly running three subscriptions, each renewing on its own schedule. Because the amounts are small and the creators feel personal, these are some of the easiest charges to forget.
The per-creation billing nuance
Some creators bill per month, but others bill per creation. With per-creation billing you are charged each time the creator publishes a paid post, up to a monthly cap you can set. If a creator has a busy month and you did not set a limit, the total can come out higher than you expected. Before you join, check whether a creator charges monthly or per creation, and set a monthly maximum if the option is offered. If a past month surprised you, this is usually why.
How Patreon charges appear on your statement
On a bank or card statement the charge typically reads as Patreon, sometimes with extra reference characters. The tricky part is that supporting several creators can produce several separate lines, and they may not all fall on the same date. So you might see one Patreon line on the 3rd, another on the 14th and a third on the 28th. People often assume Patreon is one subscription when it is really several stacked together. Scanning a full month of statements is the only reliable way to count them all.
How to cancel a Patreon membership step by step
On the web at patreon.com:
- Log in and open your account menu, then go to Settings.
- Select Memberships to see every creator you support.
- Find the membership you want to stop and choose Edit.
- Turn off auto-renew, or select Cancel membership, and confirm.
- Repeat for each creator you no longer want to support.
You can also do this directly from a creator page: open the creator, find your membership status and choose Edit or Cancel membership.
In the Patreon mobile app the path is similar: open your profile, go to Settings or Memberships, select the membership, and turn off auto-renew or cancel.
If you originally subscribed through an iPhone or iPad, Apple handles the billing, so cancelling inside Patreon may not stop the charge. Open Settings on your device, tap your name, choose Subscriptions, find Patreon and cancel there. The same logic applies if you ever signed up through another app store.
One honest note on timing: cancelling usually stops the next renewal rather than ending access immediately. You typically keep your perks until the end of the period you already paid for, then it lapses. Exact behaviour and any tax shown can vary by region, so check the confirmation screen for your own dates.
What to do with the money
Cancelling is not the same as deciding you do not value a creator. The point is to choose on purpose rather than by default. Keep the one or two memberships that genuinely earn their place, and let the forgotten ones go. If three lapsed memberships were costing you a few euros each, that is real money back every month. You can redirect it to a single creator you actually follow, or simply keep it.
The hard part is usually not the cancelling, it is seeing every Patreon line in one place when they fall on different dates. That is exactly what VESTELON FLOW does: you upload one bank statement and it lists every recurring charge, including each separate Patreon line, so you can see all of your memberships at once before you decide. The first report is free and there is no bank login.
Common questions
Will I lose access the moment I cancel?
Usually no. In most cases you keep your perks and posts until the end of the billing period you already paid for, then access ends. Check the confirmation for your exact cutoff date.
I support five creators. Can I cancel them all at once?
No. Memberships are per creator and each is cancelled individually. Go through your Memberships list and turn off auto-renew or cancel for each one you no longer want.
I cancelled in Patreon but I was still charged. Why?
You most likely joined through Apple or another app store, which handles the billing. Open Subscriptions in your device settings and cancel Patreon there as well.
